I had been lost and wandering for more than 40 years! Pursuing what I thought was important in life….worldy pursuits! Until cracks started to appear in the mirror! Beyond the reflection, there were many “gaps”, emptiness that required far more than human efforts, let alone solutions.
One cold morning in Melbourne, God opened the way to salvation. I was desperate to be saved. My sister, Marge sought the help of Pastor Tom Liu of The Overseas Chinese Christian Church, Ashwood Campus.
Pastor Tom, and a sister, said we can only be saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and through His sacrifice on the cross. They spoke in Mandarin, and very polished Hokkien. I spoke only English and a smattering of Penang Hokkien! Through God’s grace, we understood each other, and I understood the way of salvation. Then they prepared me for baptism.
Everyone in the church helped. It was not the time for their regular baptism service. As the church didn’t have a baptism pool, they ordered a tank, filled it with hot water brought by many families from their homes in pails and plastic bags! It took the whole morning!
After the service, we drained the water from the tank. Then I noticed a name on it – “Noah”. They told me the tank was used for pressing grapes! Marge said, “God sure knows you well, and knew how desperately you needed to be saved.”
After 17 years’ wandering from one church to another, I am so happy to have found Cornerstone Church, and this church family! More accurately, the Lord Jesus found me and brought me into His fold! Thank you, Cornerstone Church, for accepting me into your fellowship and giving me a spiritual home! TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
