Testimony of Angelena Chan

I received Jesus as my Lord and Saviour when I was 14 years old. At that time, none of my family members was converted.  My mother strongly objected to my faith. I thank God for the courage and boldness to stand firm. I was baptized on 18 October 1986 when I was 20.

In school, I was so busy in many activities that I had little time for God. I attended church but I didn’t have a growing relationship with God. I felt I didn’t fit in, but I made no effort as I was just too preoccupied with getting ahead in life.

After graduation, I practiced architecture for 3.5 years. Work consumed my life and I was not happy.  Leaving the corporate practice and starting my own practice was good for my spiritual life as I had time to rebuild my relationship with God.  He surrounded me with godly friends who encouraged me to attend a systematic Bible study so that I can grow in my knowledge of God.

In 2012, a dear friend was diagnosed with late-stage cancer.  Her positive attitude in the face of terminal illness gave me a new perspective of strength and fruitful living.  She never once complained as she yielded to our sovereign Lord.  Instead of giving in to despair and hopelessness, she thanked God for giving her notice not to waste her life. She made up her bucket list and invited a group of friends to join her.  One of the items on her list was a mission trip to Mongolia. That trip opened my eyes and heart to mission work and I made friends and partnered some in their work.

I am thankful that God is merciful and gracious to me and my family.  My sister, dad and mom have all given their hearts to our Lord.  I have been unfaithful but God is always faithful.  My prayer is that I will walk worthy of my Lord and please Him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work and growing in my knowledge of Him.

That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. Col 1:10
